We were thrilled this week to welcome a group of PGCE science teachers from the University of Derby, who made the (return) journey at the height of the bad weather. Pupils took them on a tour of school, they sat in on, and assisted with lessons throughout the day.
Head of Chemistry, Miss Chatzisymeonidou, showed them how we use ‘Microscaling’ – a method of conducting practical experiments that is quicker, safer and reduces waste in comparison to traditional analytic methods. Pupils in Year 7 tested learned how to test for acids and alkalis using Litmus as an indicator.
Microscaling in UK schools is developed and supported by the Science education body, CLEAPSS and we are extremely grateful for their ongoing support. We wish the University of Derby teachers all the best with their future careers.
