Jonathan Dingsdale joined ELSS last September, teaching Astronomy, Physics and Electronics GCSEs to pupils. Setting up a new subject in Astronomy and taking over teaching of Electronics has proved a challenging but rewarding experience.
As Head of Astronomy, Mr Dingsdale tries to ensure pupils receive an education in the subject that is unlike most schools in the UK. Enrichment trips and practical observations with telescopes provide pupils with the opportunity to apply and appreciate their knowledge learnt in lessons, while the lessons themselves aim to educate every one of them beyond the level expected for their GCSE examination.
Mr Dingsdale previously studied Physics with Astrophysics at the University of Manchester, before a short period working as a software developer. Having felt a desire to become a teacher from earlier in life, he then worked in education in North Wales, before attending the University of Worcester on the PGCE program specialising in Science, Physics and Citizenship. He worked in various schools in Herefordshire before moving to London and starting at ELSS.
In his free time, Mr Dingsdale enjoys reading Science Fiction, playing chess and visiting the theatre.
