Beyond 18 Week is an annual event at ELSS Sixth Form, where Year 12 students explore the careers they are striving to enter. This year students attended lectures, seminars and workshops on the Philosophy of Justice delivered by Luke Gittos from Hughmans Solicitors, where they got to work with transcripts from a live murder appeal trial. Hermes Investments and Investment 20/20 delivered a session on investment management and four trainees from Schroders explained their journey so far as Asset Managers. The construction Youth Trust looked at opportunities for a career in the built environment through university and apprenticeship routes, Morgan Stanley informed us about opportunities in Tech, City University London gave an in-depth workshop on aerospace engineering and a seminar on common mistakes on UCAS personal Statements.

We welcomed ELSS engineering partner Network Rail back to sixth form for the first time this year and followed their presentation by hearing a personal career journey from Drew Dixon, Chief Product Owner at Vodafone. Queen Mary University London delivered sessions on medicine and dentistry.

The week ended with two intense days of research, writing and personal reflection at the end of which each Year 12 student had completed a second draft of their UCAs personal statement. University applications are now well underway and students are finding work placements for the summer holidays in order to fill the gaps in their experience so far.
